Highlights of International Exchange and Cooperation of the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association (SXIMEA) (2019-2022)

 

Year 2019

From April 14-24, 2019, the SXIMEA organized a hospital management training tour for leading experts from relevant medical institutions in Shaanxi Province to the University of Minnesota, Mayo Clinic, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

 

On April 23, 2019, six international pediatric experts from Romania, India, Thailand, and South Korea visited the Vice President unit of SXIMEA, the Xi'an TCM Hospital of Encephalopathy, to conduct international medical exchanges and joint consultations on difficult pediatric diseases.

 

From May 16 to May 22, 2019, at the invitation of the Central Asian Medical Research Society and Pediatric Society in the capital of Uzbekistan, the Director of Pediatrics from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Hospital Cooperation Alliance, the Honorary President of the Children's Hospital at Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, and the Vice President of SXIMEA, Fuyong Jiao, led a delegation to visit Central Asian countries including Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

 

On July 18, 2019, experts from the Russian Perinatal and Children's Rehabilitation Center were invited to the Vice President unit of SXIMEA, the Children's Hospital at the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, to conduct academic exchanges.

 

On August 22, 2019, Aslori Mirzoshokhrukh, the former Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan and current First Vice Chairman, led a delegation to visit and exchange ideas at the Vice President unit of SXIMEA, the New Changan International Maternity Hospital.

 

On September 2, 2019, at the invitation of the former Chairman of the Polish National Pediatric Neurology Society and Dean of the Medical School of Rzeszów University, SXIMEA Vice President Fuyong Jiao led a delegation to visit Poland and signed the China-Poland Pediatric Alliance Agreement.

 

From September 6 to September 8, 2019, the “International Breastfeeding Counselor Training Course“ was held in Xi'an, jointly organized by Shaanxi Medical Association, New Changan International Maternity Hospital and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford at Stanford.

 

On September 18, 2019, Hujie Song, the President of the Xi'an TCM Hospital of Encephalopath, the Chairman of the Pediatric Cerebral Palsy Professional Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, and the Vice President of SXIMEA, was invited by Astana Medical University in Kazakhstan to participate in a one-week "The Belt and Road" cultural exchange visit on Traditional Chinese Medicine.

 

 

From September 16 to September 26, 2019, SXIMEA and the Shaanxi Overseas Chinese Federation organized the "Family of China, Shaanxi Traditional Chinese Medicine Silk Road Journey," visiting Romania, Bulgaria, and Serbia.

 

On November 7, 2019, the Pediatric Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Nutrition Professional Committee of SXIMEA and the Tangdu Hospital Department of Pediatrics hosted the "2nd Tangdu Hospital Pediatric International Seminar".

 

From November 16 to November 17, 2019, SXIMEA was invited to attend the "2019 International Medical Forum and the 8th Harvard China Project Experience Exchange Conference".

 

On November 29, 2019, the Director of the Bureau of Foreign Affairs of the Thai Ministry of Health and  M.R. Waraprapa Chakrabandhu visited Qujiang Anren Hospital, and SXIMEA was invited to attend the China-Thailand Medical Exchange Symposium.

 

On November 30, 2019, the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, the Shaanxi Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Czech Republic Traditional Chinese Medicine Center signed the text of the "China-Czech Traditional Chinese Medicine Center" cooperative project. SXIMEA Vice President Fuyong Jiao had in-depth discussions with the Czech side on the background and details of the "China-Czech Traditional Chinese Medicine Center" project and reached a cooperative intention.

 

Year 2020

 

From January 29 to February 16, 2020, with the support of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, and the joint efforts of SXIMEA, the Greater Washington D.C. Association of Chinese Americans, and the BaiXing Health Micro Public Welfare Team, Samegoal Technology Holding's subsidiary, Xi'an Yintan Valley Maker Space, together with Shaanxi Veda Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and its US partner RV PHARMA LLC, raised more than 80,000 yuan to purchase 6,000 N95 protective masks urgently in various regions of the United States. Through the Shaanxi Charity Federation, the masks were donated to the frontline public health centers of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, Xi'an Epidemic Prevention and Control Headquarters, and Xi'an International Port Area Management Committee. All donated masks meet the standards.

 

On February 25, 2020, SXIMEA received a thank-you letter of condolences from Dr. Maunel Katz, the Chairman of CIP, expressing gratitude to SXIMEA for its tireless efforts and contributions in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic since its outbreak.

 

On March 3, 2020, LifeGene, a Vice President unit of SXIMEA, donated 20,000 sets of nucleic acid detection test kits to South Korea and Italy.

 

 

On April 16, 2020, the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, SXIMEA, Xi'an Association for Science and Technology (XAST), and Shaanxi Pediatric Specialist Alliance jointly held an international experience exchange and Kawasaki disease network consultation meeting for COVID-19 infections. Pediatric experts from countries such as China, Israel, Egypt, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Ghana, and the Global Consensus Society, chaired by Manuel Katz, participated in the meeting.

 

On May 16, 2020, SXIMEA was invited to participate in the SCO Hospital Cooperation Alliance's international remote seminar on COVID-19 prevention and control. Hospital experts from 21 countries, including China, Australia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Israel, South Korea, the United States, and Italy, exchanged views on epidemic prevention and control strategies through online communication, sharing their experiences and practices in combating the epidemic.

 

On May 18, 2020, as a Vice President unit of SXIMEA, Xi'an TCM Hospital of Encephalopathy applied for the 2020 "International Science and Technology Cooperation Base" project in Xi'an, using the Moscow "Good Chinese Medicine Practitioner" Rehabilitation Center affiliated with the Russian Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Xi'an International Brain Rehabilitation Center in Kazakhstan as overseas bases.

 

On May 23, 2020, as a Vice President unit of SXIMEA, Xi'an TCM Hospital of Encephalopathy jointly applied for the 2020 "Asia Cooperation Fund" project with the Shaanxi Energy Institute, planning to enhance public health services and promote TCM cooperation in countries such as Russia and Kazakhstan under the framework of the SCO.

 

On May 26, 2020, SXIMEA received a letter of recognition from the SCO Hospital Cooperation Alliance, commending the outstanding contributions of Fuyong Jiao, Vice President of SXIMEA and Chief Physician of Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital Children's Hospital, in the first international remote seminar on COVID-19 prevention and control.

 

On June 13, 2020, Fuyong Jiao, Vice President of SXIMEA and Chief Physician of Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital Children's Hospital, was invited to participate in the Ashgabat International Online Conference on Science and Technology Innovation, hosted by the National Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, as the only Chinese speaker for the second time. He delivered a report entitled "Pediatric COVID-19 and Kawasaki Disease" as the first speaker.

 

On October 1, 2020, Professor Fuyong Jiao, Vice President of SXIMEA and Honorary President of Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital Children's Hospital, received an invitation letter from Turkmenistan's Minister of Health, N.Amamhnepesov, and the leader of the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, A.Annkaev, to attend an international medical online conference as the only invited scholar from China. The conference invited medical experts from Russia, Turkey, Iran, and other countries, covering various specialties including internal medicine, surgery, infectious diseases, and neurology.

 

On October 15, 2020, SXIMEA was invited to participate in the Special Briefing Meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO) Solidarity Response Fund. The meeting focused on topics such as the manufacturing, testing, and treatment methods of COVID-19 vaccines, the importance of using vaccines to prevent a pandemic and promote economic recovery, and relevant issues related to epidemic prevention and control.

 

On October 19, 2020, SXIMEA was invited to participate in an online international seminar on the prevention and control of COVID-19 organized by the International Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. Medical experts from various countries such as the Global Pediatric Consensus Association, Israel, Russia, India, Turkey, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan were also invited to attend.

 

On December 12, 2020, SXIMEA and Children's Hospital jointly organized the Western China International Conference on Pediatrics and the Third Kawasaki Disease Conference in Shaanxi Province, both online and offline. A total of 7 countries, including China, Czech Republic, Poland, Nepal, Mongolia, and Uzbekistan, as well as numerous domestic pediatric experts, attended the conference.

 

On December 17, 2020, SXIMEA was invited to participate in the first Sino-British Health and Medical Investment and Cooperation Expert Network Conference.

 

Year 2021

 

On May 3, 2021, SXIMEA was invited to participate in the Ashgabat International Scientific and Innovation Conference in Turkmenistan. Vice President of SXIMEA and Honorary Director of the Children's Hospital of Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, Fuyong Jiao, presented a report on China's experience in the diagnosis and treatment of Kawasaki disease at the conference.

 

On May 6, 2021, SXIMEA was invited to participate in an international medical online conference on pediatric cardiology, hosted by Euroscience Georgian National Section. Pediatric medical experts from countries such as Georgia, China, France, Italy, Japan, and Russia participated in the conference.

 

On August 22, 2021, with the support of the Shaanxi Association for Science and Technology, Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association (SXIMEA), and the leadership of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, the Cross-Strait Academic Conference on Kawasaki Disease was successfully held at the International Academic Hall of Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital.

 

On October 10th, 2021, SXIMEA was invited to attend an international medical science conference in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan. Medical experts from various countries including the president of the Georgian Pediatric Society, the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine also attended the conference.

 

On October 30, 2021, the International Symposium on New Advances in Diagnosis and Treatment of Pediatric Infectious Diseases was successfully held online. The conference was supported by the Shaanxi Association for Science and Technology, organized by the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association and the Shaanxi Provincial Pediatric Medical Research Center, and hosted by the Children's Hospital of Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital and the Department of Pediatrics of Yan'an University Affiliated Hospital. The conference was also co-organized by the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Talent Demonstration Base and the Shaanxi Clinical Medicine Demonstration International Science and Technology Cooperation Base. Four speakers from China, the Czech Republic, and Mongolia gave keynote speeches on specialized topics.

 

International academic exchange achievements in 2021.

 

SXIMEA's Vice President, Chairman of the European TCM Center in Czech Republic, Honorary Director of Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital Children's Hospital, and Director of the Shaanxi Provincial Clinical Research Center for Pediatric Internal Medicine, Fuyong Jiao, organized and edited the first popular science book on Kawasaki disease in China, which was published by the World Book Publishing Company.

 

In addition, an article on the diagnosis and management of Kawasaki disease cardiovascular sequelae was published in the only Chinese contemporary pediatric journal indexed by the American MEDLINE. The article was written by Fuyong Jiao as the corresponding author and Zhilong Mu as the first author. This marks a new level of research achievement for the team at the Children's Hospital, guided by the leadership of the scientific research department.

 

In addition, an article on the diagnosis and management of Kawasaki disease cardiovascular sequelae was published in the only Chinese contemporary pediatric journal indexed by the American MEDLINE. Fuyong Jiao wrote the article as the corresponding author, and Zhilong Mu as the first author. This marks a new level of research achievement for the team at the Children's Hospital, guided by the leadership of the scientific research department.

 

Furthermore, Professor Jianjun Mou, Vice President of SXIMEA and from the Department of Cardiology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiao Tong University, published an article in the top international journal of cardiovascular medicine, the "European Heart Journal", on the controversial relationship between sodium intake and expected lifespan and overall risk of death. The article had an impact factor of 23.

 

The team led by Jianjun Mou also won the first prize of the 2020 Shaanxi Provincial Natural Science Award for their study on early prediction factors for primary hypertension and target organ damage.

 

Lastly, after three years of effort, two international medical journals were successfully registered and founded in Georgia in December 2021. These two journals are the "International Journal of Pediatrics" (IJP) and the "International Journal of Pediatric Cardiology," with Fuyong Jiao serving as the editor-in-chief, Vice President and Dean of Xi'an TCM Hospital of Encephalopath, Hujie Song serving as the vice editor-in-chief, and Vice President and Secretary-General Wang Ning serving as the executive vice editor-in-chief. The first issues of both journals have been successfully published. This is the first cooperation between Chinese medical personnel and Georgia, and the establishment of two international medical journals provides a useful platform for medical professionals in various countries to exchange and learn, promoting communication and learning among medical professionals.

 

Year 2022

 

The "International Medical Innovation Management Summit Forum" was held in Xi'an, China on March 21, 2022, organized by the SXIMEA, the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, the Shaanxi Clinical Medicine Demonstration International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital Clinical Medical Introduction of Foreign Intellectual Demonstration Base, and the SCO Hospital Cooperation Alliance. The online learning audience exceeded 3400 people. The forum aimed to promote exchange and cooperation, expand the scale of talent introduction, and improve professional medical level through innovative cooperation modes, practical project implementation, exchange, mutual learning, and inclusive development, and better demonstrate the effect of international medical cooperation.

 

On April 16, 2022, the "China-Czech Republic-Nepal Multilateral Medical Academic Conference" was successfully held online, organized by the SXIMEA and the Shaanxi Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with co-sponsorship from the Shaanxi Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Demonstration International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, the Shaanxi Clinical Medicine Demonstration International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, the Shaanxi Association for Science and Technology Overseas Intellectual Service Action Plan Work Base, the SCO Hospital Cooperation Alliance, and the Chinese Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics. The online conference aimed to promote the dissemination of traditional Chinese medicine culture along the "the Belt and Road," promote the promotion of traditional Chinese medicine characteristic medical treatment, and international exchange of traditional Chinese medicine industry, and demonstrate the internationalization ability of traditional Chinese medicine in treating skin diseases.

 

On April 29, 2022, the "China-Europe 2022 International Medical Innovation Management Summit Forum" was successfully held in Xi'an, co-hosted by the SXIMEA, the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, SCO Hospital Cooperation Alliance, and Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Exchange Center. Five world-renowned pediatric experts from Israel, Belgium, Switzerland, and other countries were invited to participate in the academic exchange. This forum, as a further cooperation between the SXIMEA and the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital in intellectual introduction, aims to promote exchange and cooperation, expand the scale of intellectual introduction, and improve professional medical standards. By continuously innovating cooperation models, promoting practical project implementation, exchanging and learning from each other, and inclusive development, it can better demonstrate the effects of international medical cooperation.

On May 24, 2022, Ying Wang, Deputy Director of the Foreign Cooperation and Exchange Division of the Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Department, and Juanxia Feng, Deputy Director of the Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Exchange Center, visited the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital for research and investigation, and held discussions on the hospital's international exchange and cooperation situation with the SXIMEA. Ying Wang and her delegation listened to the work report of the SXIMEA, the construction of the hospital's international science and technology cooperation base, the work of the hospital's international department and international cooperation during the epidemic, and the progress of key international cooperation research projects. They exchanged ideas on the support and suggestions for external cooperation. Ying Wang highly praised the achievements of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital and the SXIMEA in external exchange and cooperation, giving full recognition to their leading and demonstrating role in exchange and cooperation with countries along the "the Belt and Road".

 

On June 10th, 2022, the "China-Serbia 2022 International Medical Innovation and Management Summit" was successfully held in the ancient city of Xi'an, jointly organized by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Science and Technology, SXIMEA, the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, SCO Hospital Cooperation Alliance, and Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Exchange Center. The conference invited four renowned pediatric experts from Serbia, a country along the "the Belt and Road" initiative, to share international advanced concepts and knowledge in the fields of pediatric heart disease, pediatric kidney disease, cystic fibrosis, etc. More than 3,400 medical personnel from Shaanxi province participated in the online learning.

 

On August 7, 2022, the "International Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Communication and Academic Forum" was held, hosted by SXIMEA. The forum focused on "Promoting the Spirit of the Silk Road and Spreading Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture", and was conducted through online and offline channels, with simultaneous interpretation in Chinese and English. Many domestic and international experts and scholars were invited to exchange academic views on various topics related to traditional Chinese medicine, such as the development of folk traditional Chinese medicine, the establishment of traditional Chinese medicine service export bases, the construction and dissemination of traditional Chinese medicine cultural discourse systems, the promotion of traditional Chinese acupuncture as a business card of the Belt and Road Initiative, and the application of technology in promoting the international development of traditional Chinese medicine. These experts gave speeches on traditional Chinese medicine education, clinical applications, development status and prospects, and cooperation and exchange, and shared their experiences to further enhance international communication and cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine, promote the international dissemination of traditional Chinese medicine culture, and explore new models and experiences to promote the inheritance and development of traditional Chinese medicine.

 

On September 1, 2022, SXIMEA signed a three-year medical technology strategic cooperation agreement with Poland, Germany, Russia, Serbia, and the Czech Republic. The association relied on the "Overseas Intelligence Serves the Country Action Plan Work Base" and with the support of the director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Center of the SCO Hospital Alliance, the vice president SXIMEA, and the honorary dean of the Children's Hospital of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, Professor Fuyong Jiao. The five countries, including the Medical University of Lodz in Poland, the Institute of Complementary Medicine and Cultural Medicine Research (PMI) in Germany, the National Medical Research Center for Children's Health of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the Institute of Public Health and Youth Health Care in Serbia, and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Novi Sad in the Czech Republic and the European Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Czech Republic, signed the agreement. In the future, both parties will rely on cooperation and innovation, adhere to the principles of complementary advantages, mutual benefit, win-win cooperation, and friendly cooperation, accelerate the process of the cooperation agreement, gradually launch a series of international medical cooperation projects, improve the medical technology level of medical staff, and jointly promote the development of human health.

 

On October 10, 2022, SXIMEA signed a three-year strategic cooperation agreement with the TCM Department of Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Canada. In the future, the two sides will accelerate the process of cooperation agreement in the aspects of TCM culture dissemination, TCM training, TCM professional construction, academic exchange, mutual visits, etc. Gradually launch a series of international TCM cooperation projects to make the necessary contribution to the development of human health.

 

On October 11th, 2022, the international medical conference with the theme of "Health, Education and Sports in the New Era of National Revival" was held in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, organized by the Turkmenistan government. The conference was held both online and offline, with more than 30 renowned international experts from China, Germany, Greece, Russia and other countries in attendance, and pediatric doctors from provinces such as Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Hainan participating in the conference online for learning and discussion.

 

On October 12, 2022, the "Second China-Serbia International Medical Innovation and Management Summit" was successfully held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, hosted by the SXIMEA and co-sponsored by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Exchange Center, and SCO Hospital Cooperation Alliance. The forum invited international experts and scholars to share their academic insights. This forum was the second cooperation meeting held between China and Serbia in 2022. Both sides discussed and shared advanced management concepts, professional knowledge, and epidemic prevention experience in order to strengthen international cooperation, expand the scope of talent introduction, and enhance professional medical standards. Through continuous innovation in cooperation models, the practical implementation of projects, exchange and mutual learning, and inclusive development, the forum aimed to better demonstrate the exemplary effect of international medical cooperation, and to further promote the development of the medical and health field at a higher and deeper level. The forum also aimed to contribute to the joint construction of the "China-Serbia Hospital Cooperation Alliance" and the creation of a "China-Serbia Health Community."

 

On December 9, 2022, at the invitation of Professor ERDENETUYA.GANBAATAR, the chairman of the Mongolian Pediatric Society and Director of the Department of Pediatrics of the National Medical University of Mongolia, Professor Fuyong Jiao, Vice President of SXIMEA, Director of International Cooperation and Exchange Center of SCO Hospital Alliance, and Honorary Dean of Children's Hospital of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, attended the International Pediatric Medicine Conference held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Experts from Australia, Japan and other countries were also invited to attend the conference. Professor Fuyong Jiao gave a special report entitled "Current Research Status of Rare Diseases in Children", which was highly praised by international peers. Professor ERDENETUYA.GANBAATAR, the chairman of the conference, highly praised Professor Fuyong Jiao’s contributions to promoting academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation between the two countries and hoped that the two sides would further strengthen medical cooperation and exchange for the benefit of the two peoples through joint efforts.
