The Inaugural Meeting of the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association (SXIMEA) Trauma and Diabetic Foot Professional Committee and the First Annual Academic Conference were successfully held.

From 23 to 24, 2022, the inaugural meeting of the Trauma and Diabetic Foot Professional Committee and the first annual academic conference, which was hosted by SXIMEA and organized by the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Medical University, was successfully held in a combination of the online and offline method.

Zhao Chen, the president of SXIMEA, Secretary-General Ning Wang, Honglin Yan, the dean of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Medical University, Xueping Li, the vice president of Xi'an Medical University, Xiaokun Li, an academician from Wenzhou Medical University, Professor Xingwu Ran from the West China Hospital of Sichuan University, and Professor Bingyin Shi from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiao Tong University, and other well-known experts in the industry attended the conference. The meeting unanimously approved Prof. Ya Li as the chairman, Academician Xuekun Li as the advisor, Prof. Xingwu Ran and Prof. Sheli Li as the honorary chairman, 16 experts including Xiaofeng Li, Lu Shen, Yaping Zhang, Lijun Ren, Zhufang Tian, Wei Li, Xiaoyan Wu, Chuantao Cheng, Fei Cong, Lianye Liu, Hongli Liu, Xiaolin Bai, Xuelin Qi, Xinqiong Liu, Tao Zheng, Heming Chen as the vice-chairmen, Weiguo Ma as the secretary-general and Xiaojuan Shao as the Deputy Secretary General. Ya Li, the chairman of the committee, said that he would follow the philosophy of "truth-seeking, pragmatic, harmonious and innovative" of the SXIMEA and put himself into the work of the committee as soon as possible, and would lead the specialty committee of trauma and diabetic foot to study and work hard in discipline construction, academic development and technological innovation, and dedicate himself to the society.

They congratulated the election of Chairman Ya Li and all the vice-chairmen, standing committee members and members, and expressed their congratulations and high hopes for the establishment of the Special Committee on Trauma and Diabetic Foot, hoping that the establishment of the Special Committee can truly bring into play the characteristics of "wide coverage, strong academic background and multidisciplinary collaboration", Under the leadership of Chairman Ya Li, and with the joint efforts of the vice-chairmen, standing committee members and members, the committee will actively cultivate professional talents in diabetic foot, build a multidisciplinary collaboration platform for medical and nursing staff of different specialties such as endocrinology, orthopedics, vascular surgery, burns and plastic surgery, strengthen academic exchanges, provide better professional services for diabetic foot patients in Shaanxi Province and even in the northwest region from various aspects such as prevention, treatment and care, and promote the medical and health care cause of our province.

The conference was a gathering of many experts in the area who came together to celebrate the establishment of the Trauma and Diabetic Foot Professional Committee. Among the academic luminaries who participated were Vice President Ya Li of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Medical University, Honorary Chairman Xiaokun Li of Wenzhou Medical University, and Professor Xingwu Ran of the West China Hospital of Sichuan University, who delivered a diverse range of academic lectures that attracted over 10,000 clicks.

On the afternoon of December 23, a pre-conference meeting chaired by Vice President Ya Li was held in the Endocrinology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Medical University. Due to the impact of the epidemic, the conference invited senior diabetic foot experts, such as Professor Xiaohong Guan, to provide guidance online. The online commentators included Director Haiyan Gao of the Endocrinology Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Medical University, Director Xin Zhao of the Endocrinology Department of Xi'an Aerospace General Hospital, Director Lianye Liu of the Endocrinology Department of Weinan Central Hospital, and Director Xinqiong Liu of the Endocrinology Department of Tongchuan City People's Hospital. Although experts could not conduct patient rounds and meet face-to-face with patients as usual, the online communication was also wonderful. Five clinical doctors from the Endocrinology Department presented more than 20 case reports and raised practical questions, which Professor Guan and other experts answered. Through communication, all attendees benefited greatly. It is believed that the experience gained from this exchange can be better applied to benefit more diabetic foot patients.

On December 24, experts and professors from inside and outside the province came together to present a rich academic feast on diabetic foot wound management, diabetic peripheral neuropathy foot orthosis design, bone transfer treatment progress, application of antibiotics, and management of diabetic foot vascular disease. The lectures covered various aspects of the development of diabetic foot diagnosis and treatment technology, and the contents were dazzling and informative.

Diabetic foot is a "three-high" complication of diabetes, with high disability and mortality rates, high hospitalization rates, and high costs, seriously damaging the health of diabetic patients and reducing their quality of life. The prevention and treatment of diabetic foot ulcers can significantly reduce the amputation and death rates of patients, as well as alleviate the economic burden on families and society.

Through this conference, the attendees have further updated their knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic foot and increased their understanding of thyroid and adrenal-related diseases. It is believed that establishing the Wound and Diabetic Foot Professional Committee can provide a platform for scholars who love the field of diabetic foot to exchange and learn and add a touch of new brilliance to the medical and health construction of Shaanxi Province.
