Expanding the International "Circle of Friends" to Jointly Create a Healthy "New Silk Road"

Leveraging the China-Central Asia Summit as an opportunity, the Medical Promotion Association aims to collaborate with Central Asian countries and those along the "Belt and Road" initiative, building and supporting each other to focus on developing cooperation in the big health industry. This effort is directed towards contributing to the high-quality development of Shaanxi's health and wellness initiatives.

On the morning of August 23, 2023, a delegation comprising Bounkong SYHAXONG, former Minister of Health, Bounnack SAYSANASONGKHAM, Vice Chairman of the Health Professional Committee, and Thongsavanh SENGKONGDALA, Deputy Director of the Traditional Medicine Research Institute from the Lao People's Democratic Republic, visited the Xi'an Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. They were accompanied by Jiao Fuyong, Vice President of the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association, Wang Ning, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Association, along with the hospital's leadership team and middle-level cadres.

Visit and Experience

The Laotian medical experts first toured the hospital's cultural exhibition, comprehensive treatment area of Traditional Chinese Medicine, TCM cultural and science education hall, and the outpatient department of acupuncture and massage rehabilitation, closely experiencing the rich atmosphere of TCM culture and the exquisite TCM unique therapeutic techniques. The delegation was deeply impressed by the profound cultural heritage of TCM in the hospital and showed keen interest in unique therapeutic techniques such as acupuncture, moxibustion, massage, copper cupping, and acupoint application.

Exchange and Discussion

Following the visit, an exchange meeting was held, chaired by Xiao, Bing, Deputy Director of the Xi'an Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. Zhao, Feng, the hospital's president, introduced the hospital's construction, famous medical resources, TCM schools, and academic strengths. He expressed hope that medical exchange and cooperation with Laos would enhance medical technology levels and health service capabilities, strengthen the exchange of health concepts and cultures, and promote mutual learning and integration between traditional and modern medicine of both countries.

Officials from the Lao People's Democratic Republic discussed the development status of Laotian medicine and the application of TCM in Laos, noting the deep and long-standing friendship between China and Laos. They acknowledged China's advantages in medicinal plant extraction, medical talent training, rehabilitation therapy equipment, and techniques, all of which are worth learning from. They expressed hope for the opportunity to promote international cooperation, traditional medicine academic exchange, medical talent training, and benefit the local population.

Signing Ceremony

After the visit and exchange activities, the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association and Bounnack SAYSANASONGKHAM, Vice Chairman of the Health Professional Committee of the Lao Ministry of Health, signed a medical and technological cooperation agreement. The three visiting foreign experts were also appointed as international consultants.
