Expanding the International "Circle of Friends" to Jointly Create a Healthy "New Silk Road"

The Medical Promotion Association will take the China-Central Asia Summit as an opportunity to join hands with Central Asian countries and those along the "Belt and Road" to build and support each other. The focus will be on developing cooperation in the big health industry, contributing to the high-quality development of Shaanxi's health and wellness initiatives.

On the afternoon of August 22, 2023, Bounkong SYHAXONG, former Minister of Health and current Vice Chairman of the Lao Medical Council of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Bounnack SAYSANASONGKHAM, former Deputy Director-General of the Department of Healthcare and current Vice Chairman of the Health Professional Committee of the Ministry of Health of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and Thongsavanh SENGKONGDALA, Deputy Director of the Institute of Traditional Medicine, visited the Xi'an Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Encephalopathy, accompanied by a delegation from the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association.

The Laotian medical expert group first visited clinical departments such as the Adult Acupuncture Rehabilitation Department and the Children's Rehabilitation Department. They examined the hospital's practice in diagnosing and treating brain diseases with traditional Chinese medicine, and learned about the hospital's efforts in implementing the "Belt and Road" traditional Chinese medicine development plan and promoting TCM services in countries and regions along the route. The visit was accompanied by Song Hu Jie, the Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the hospital, Vice President Wei Yuanbin, Director of the International Department Wang Hui, and other hospital leaders.

During the discussion, Vice Chairman Bounkong SYHAXONG expressed that although the visit was brief, he deeply felt the professionalism of the hospital in TCM rehabilitation treatment. He noted that Laos still has significant deficiencies and imperfections in TCM rehabilitation treatment and hoped that under the "Belt and Road" framework, China could continue to provide substantial help and support for the development of TCM work in Laos.

Vice Chairman Bounnack SAYSANASONGKHAM expressed his deep impression of the Xi'an Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Encephalopathy after the visit. He was grateful for the support from the Chinese government in the medical field to Laos. He noted Laos' lack of research and experience in TCM rehabilitation treatment, with many patients having to seek professional treatment in neighboring countries. He hoped for future in-depth discussions and cooperation, especially in the area of talent training.

Deputy Director Thongsavanh SENGKONGDALA introduced the basic national conditions of Laos, its healthcare system, and the development of traditional Chinese medicine in Laos. He mentioned that Laos has a limited number of TCM practitioners and TCM medical institutions, hoping for further cooperation in TCM diagnostic and therapeutic technology and research.

President Song, HuJie stated that as a traditional medicine, TCM plays a critical role in the rehabilitation process of diseases. With the friendly relations between China and Laos, joint efforts could be made to organize TCM technology training classes and establish overseas TCM treatment centers. The Xi'an Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Encephalopathy could also serve as a designated institution for treatment in Laos, with future exchanges and learning in academic research, technology, and talent training to complement each other's strengths and weaknesses.

Vice President Jiao, Fuyong mentioned that the success of this exchange was due to the active cooperation of the Laotian experts, the hospital, and the medical promotion association. He hoped to seize the opportunity for deeper cooperation on the platform provided by the medical promotion association.

This visit and exchange will help accelerate the "going global" pace of traditional Chinese medicine, continuously expanding TCM's overseas influence, and laying a solid foundation for deeper and broader cooperation between China and Laos in the field of TCM service trade.

The Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association will continue to uphold the principles of "truth-seeking, pragmatism, harmony, and innovation," leveraging its advantages in international medical exchange promotion, resource integration, project transformation, and industry upgrading. It aims to unleash the vitality and potential of the health industry at multiple levels and dimensions, promoting the rapid development of China's medical and pharmaceutical industry and contributing to the high-quality development of Shaanxi's health and wellness initiatives.
