Bladder Tumor Precision Diagnosis and Treatment Training Course Successfully Concludes

On March 29, the “2025 Training Course on New Technologies for the Precision Diagnosis and Treatment of Bladder Tumors” was held in the conference room of the Urology Institute at the Science and Education Building. Conducted in an in-person format, the course attracted over 50 participants from provinces and cities across the country.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Li Lei, Honorary Chair of the Urology Committee of the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association, Vice President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, and Director of its Department of Urology, as well as Professor Wu Kaijie, Vice President of the Yulin Hospital of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University and a urology specialist, delivered welcome speeches and warmly greeted colleagues from across the nation.

The training course was conducted in three main sections. During the session on “Diagnosis of Bladder Cancer,” chaired by Professor Chen Xingfa, Professors Wang Rong, Duan Xiaoyi, Jia Xi, and Zeng Jin shared their expertise on various diagnostic advancements. Their presentations covered topics such as multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) and VI-RADS scoring for bladder cancer, the value of PET/CT in diagnosing bladder cancer and upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC), new technologies for detecting bone metastases of bladder cancer, and recent developments in photodynamic diagnosis and treatment of bladder tumors.

In the “Surgical Experience Sharing” session chaired by Professor Du Yuefeng, Professor Jing Yuming from Xijing Hospital gave a brief overview of treatment options for muscle-invasive bladder cancer. The team from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University showcased three signature techniques. Professor Liu Sheng demonstrated the flexible application of cystoscopy in complex cases. Professor Wu Kaijie presented a robotic ileal orthotopic neobladder reconstruction procedure, which enables patients to regain voluntary urination. Professor Ma Zhenkun introduced the standardized technique for robotic single-position radical surgery for UTUC.

The final session, “Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Collaboration,” was chaired by Professor Wu Kaijie. In this session, Professor Li Weiping discussed advances and clinical applications of neoadjuvant therapy for muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Professor Zhu Guodong shared insights on the use of neoadjuvant therapy in UTUC. Professor Gao Yang introduced basic research in urologic oncology stemming from clinical problems, while Professor Bai Xiaojing presented her experience in comprehensive management of patients with urinary diversions.

At the end of the training, Professor Wu Kaijie awarded certificates of completion to all participants. He expressed sincere gratitude for the recognition and support from the trainees toward the Department of Urology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University. He looked forward to welcoming everyone again in future training sessions and expressed hope for further academic exchange and collaboration among colleagues in the field of urology.

Academic Event on Day Surgery and Full-Chain Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment of Bladder Tumors in Urology Successfully Held in Central and Western China

On March 30, the Academic Event on Day Surgery and Full-Chain Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment of Bladder Tumors in Urology in Central and Western China was grandly convened. The event brought together urology experts from over ten renowned hospitals across China, including West China Hospital of Sichuan University, the General Hospital of the PLA, and the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University, along with nearly a hundred urologists from within Shaanxi Province.

The academic portion of the conference was structured into four themed sections and featured 16 academic presentations, delivered in a hybrid format combining both online and in-person participation. The opening ceremony was co-hosted by Associate Director Fan Jinhai and Professor Wu Kaijie of the Department of Urology, First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University.

Professor Li Xudong, Chair of the Urology Committee of the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association and Associate Director of the Department of Urology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University; Professor Zhong Tie, Vice President of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University; and Professor Li Lei, Honorary Chair of the Urology Committee of the Association and Vice President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, each delivered welcome addresses.

The first session was chaired by Professors Zhong Tie, Wang Qinzhang, Lü Zhiyong, and Qin Weijun. Professor Yue Zhongjin shared his experience with intracorporeal laparoscopic Mainz II urinary diversion. Professor Chen Zhiwen gave an online presentation on voiding management following orthotopic neobladder reconstruction.
