The 8th Academic Session and 2025 Annual Meeting of the Pathology Committee of the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association Successfully Held in Xi’an

On April 26, 2025, the 8th Academic Session and 2025 Annual Meeting of the Pathology Committee of the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association was successfully held at the Weishuiyuan Campus of Xi’an Daxing Hospital Affiliated to Yan’an University. The event was organized by the Department of Pathology of Xi’an Daxing Hospital. For the first time, the meeting featured an international pathology session and was held in a hybrid format (online and onsite), attracting nearly 2,000 participants. It also hosted the inaugural Microscopic Art Competition, which garnered 21,643 votes and public engagement. Meanwhile, the technical sub-forum held a Pathology Slide Technology Competition with enthusiastic participation from pathology technicians representing over 50 institutions.

Four parallel sub-forums were held, each focusing on a specific area of pathology.

At the main forum, experts delivered in-depth presentations and vivid case discussions on the pathological diagnosis of prostate cancer, lung cancer, endometrial cancer, and other major system diseases. Topics included morphology, immunohistochemistry, molecular subtyping, diagnostic approaches, and the integration of clinical and pathological perspectives. The forum culminated in a histopathology case presentation competition, with ten pathologists from major hospitals across Shaanxi Province receiving first, second, third, and excellence awards.

In the international forum, academic talks were delivered on It’s Hard to Treat What You Can’t See: Perspectives in Molecular Oncology Diagnostics, common diagnostic pitfalls in Hodgkin lymphoma, advances in the pathology of adult renal tumors, and gastrointestinal tumor molecular marker testing. The online session drew 1,316 viewers, while the in-person session was filled to capacity, generating enthusiastic discussions. The Microscopic Art Competition was also judged on-site.

The cytopathology forum featured updates on the 3rd edition of the Thyroid Bethesda System (TBS) reporting guidelines, cytopathological diagnosis of serous cavity effusions, diagnostic reading techniques for common thyroid diseases, and key points in non-gynecologic cytology specimen preparation. An excellent cytology case presentation competition was also held, where six pathologists from provincial hospitals received top awards.

In the pathology technology competition forum, 54 pathology technicians from various hospitals in Shaanxi Province participated in both on-site slide reading and hands-on skill assessments.

This one-day, four-forum academic conference delivered an exceptional academic atmosphere and highlighted the depth of knowledge at the intersection of gastrointestinal pathology and clinical medicine. The event greatly enhanced communication and friendship among pathology professionals. Attendees praised the academic feast and were deeply inspired, vowing to share the insights gained with their respective pathology departments and to collectively advance diagnostic excellence. The Pathology Committee of the Association remains committed to promoting international concepts in pathology, strengthening global collaboration, and building more exchange platforms to contribute to the development of pathology in Shaanxi Province.
