Symposium on Clinical Applications of Cutting-Edge Molecular Diagnostic Technologies Successfully Held
On May 24, 2025, the Symposium on Clinical Applications of Cutting-Edge Molecular Diagnostic Technologies, part of the 4th Academic Innovation Month at Xijing Hospital, was successfully held in Xi’an. The event was hosted by the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association and organized by Xijing Hospital of the Air Force Medical University.
The symposium brought together leading experts in laboratory medicine from across China—ranging from pioneers in antimicrobial resistance mechanisms and detection technologies to innovators in mass spectrometry, liquid biopsy, and AI-powered laboratories. Academics from prestigious medical universities and frontline clinicians joined editors from leading medical publishers to share insights through keynote lectures, results showcases, and interactive discussions. Together, they envisioned a future shaped by precision medicine, while exchanging knowledge, honing skills, and fostering collaboration.
Experts from Zhejiang University School of Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Changhai Hospital in Shanghai, Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital, Xijing Hospital, and The First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University delivered in-depth talks on:
· “Antibiotic Resistance Mechanisms and Detection Technologies: Translating from Bench to Bedside”
· “Capacity Building for Clinical Gene Amplification Laboratories”
· “AI and the Future of Laboratory Medicine”
· “Molecular Biomarkers in Tumor Companion Diagnostics and Targeted Therapy”
· “Progress in Xenotransplantation of Kidneys”
· “Upgrading Infectious Disease Diagnosis with Molecular Platforms”
These presentations opened new horizons in technical innovation and demonstrated how molecular diagnostics can better serve clinical precision with improved accuracy and efficiency.
Under the theme “AI Empowering the Laboratory Ecosystem of the Future,” speakers from the Tenth People’s Hospital of Tongji University, Bethune First Hospital of Jilin University, Hainan Provincial People’s Hospital, and Chinese Medical Journal shared their expertise on:
· Clinical applications of spatial omics visualization systems
· Machine learning models built from diagnostic big data for disease prediction
· Advances in mass spectrometry for clinical microbiology
· Key strategies in academic writing and journal submissions
Their insights confirmed that AI has become an essential tool in laboratory medicine, with immense potential for transforming the field and turning vision into reality.
In the session titled “Development and Innovation in Diagnostic Techniques,” four professors from the PLA Eastern Theater General Hospital, the First Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University, Xijing Hospital, and Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital presented the latest clinical breakthroughs:
· “RNA Modification Detection and Clinical Applications”
· “Emerging Interdisciplinary Techniques in Liquid Biopsy”
· “NLRP3 Regulation of Programmed Death in Red Blood Cells”
· “Resistance and Epidemiology of ESKAPE Pathogens”
These clinical innovations underscore the tireless efforts of diagnostic professionals and serve as a powerful impetus for ongoing exploration and advancement.
After each session, twelve experts engaged in dynamic discussions with participants on the current state and future trends of laboratory medicine, strategies for overcoming challenges, talent development systems, and the real-world application and societal value of AI in diagnostics. These exchanges sparked thought-provoking insights and generated a wealth of actionable ideas.
In his closing remarks, Director Liu Jiayun of the Department of Laboratory Medicine reflected on the team’s collective dedication over the years and the formation of a discipline with distinct advantages. Looking ahead, he expressed hope that the symposium would serve as a catalyst for deeper industry exchange and cooperation, broader academic vision, and continued exploration of innovation in molecular diagnostics. Through sustained efforts in technological innovation and clinical translation, the team aims to elevate diagnostic standards and contribute more expertise to safeguarding patient health.
