SIMEPA Chronic Kidney Disease Management Committee Holds Successful Leadership Transition and Academic Conference

From October 17 to 18, 2025, the “Leadership Transition Meeting and Academic Conference of the Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Management Committee of the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association (SIMEPA)” was successfully held in Xi’an. The event was hosted by SIMEPA and organized by Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital and its Nephrology & Hemodialysis Center. More than 300 experts in the field of chronic kidney disease from inside and outside the province gathered to engage in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge topics and major clinical challenges in the discipline.

On October 17, the Committee’s leadership transition meeting was held as scheduled. Through democratic election, Zhang, Peng, Director of the Nephrology & Hemodialysis Center at Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital, was elected as Chair of the second committee. Wang, Hanmin, Director of Xi’an Daxing Hospital, was appointed Honorary Chair. Seven experts, including Du, Dewei and Lv, Jing, were elected Vice Chairs. Wang, Qiong was appointed Secretary-General, and Wang, Pengbo was elected Deputy Secretary-General.

In his remarks, newly elected Chair Zhang, Peng stated that under the leadership of SIMEPA, he will unite the Honorary Chair, all Vice Chairs, and committee members, pooling expertise from across the province. Guided by the association’s mission, he pledged to advance the development of academic platforms, talent cultivation, and research capacity, contributing to standardized CKD management, workforce development, and scientific advancement in Shaanxi, and supporting the construction of a “Healthy Shaanxi.”

During the academic sessions, Prof. Li, Guisen, Standing Committee Member of the Chinese Society of Nephrology and Director of the Department of Nephrology at Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital, and leaders from Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital delivered opening speeches. Chair Zhang, Peng introduced the clinical and research strengths of the hospital’s Nephrology & Hemodialysis Center, outlined the discipline’s development direction, and presented the Committee’s future strategic plan.

The conference invited renowned experts including Prof. Chen, Menghua from Ningxia, Prof. Hu, Wenbo from Qinghai, and Prof. Ou, Santao from Sichuan, as well as leading nephrology scholars from the province such as Prof. Jiang, Hongli and Prof. Fu, Rongguo. Across four parallel sessions, the program featured 26 thematic lectures and 8 impressive case presentations on topics including precision diagnosis and treatment of CKD, innovations in blood purification technologies, and optimized management of peritoneal dialysis. More than 20 experts interpreted the latest advances in the field.

Experts emphasized that CKD diagnosis and management are entering a new era of precision and individualized care, and emerging technologies are creating new opportunities to improve patients’ quality of life. The conference highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration and standardized clinical practice, calling for the establishment of an integrated prevention and treatment network spanning provincial, municipal, and county levels. It advocated shifting management models from “treatment-centered” to “health-management-centered” approaches to delay disease progression and improve patient outcomes.

The conference not only successfully completed the committee’s leadership transition—injecting renewed vitality into the discipline—but also showcased the latest achievements in CKD management through high-level academic exchange. The newly formed committee will take this conference as a new starting point to strengthen academic leadership, promote technological advancement, and enhance professional cohesion. Working together with nephrology experts across the province, it will advance the high-quality development of CKD prevention and treatment and safeguard the health and well-being of the people of Shaanxi.
