SIMEPA Emergency and Resuscitation Committee Conducts Pediatric First Aid Training to Safeguard Child Growth
Child safety is essential to family well-being and campus stability. To enhance the emergency response capabilities of parents and kindergarten staff, the Emergency and Resuscitation Committee of the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association (SIMEPA) conducted a special training session titled “Common Pediatric Emergencies and Response Measures” at Xi’an Jingkai Dingxin Community Kindergarten on the afternoon of November 13. Approximately 50 participants—including all kindergarten staff and representatives of the Parent Committee—attended the training to learn practical first aid skills.
Experts from the Committee provided systematic explanations based on clinical cases, focusing on common accidental injuries among young children. For choking caused by foreign body airway obstruction—a life-threatening emergency—experts demonstrated infant and child versions of the Heimlich maneuver, breaking down key steps such as “stand behind,” “make a fist,” and “apply abdominal thrusts,” enabling participants to quickly master essential techniques. For accidental ingestion of medications or toxic substances, experts emphasized the “golden principles”: remove remaining substances, avoid inducing vomiting, seek medical care immediately, and bring the container of the ingested substance. They also clarified proper procedures for handling mercury spills from broken thermometers, the “cool–remove–protect–seek care” steps for burns and scalds, proper management of abrasions and falls, and key rescue points for drowning—correcting common misconceptions in daily childcare.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)—the core component of the training—received particular attention. Experts explained CPR standards tailored to children’s physiological characteristics, covering assessment of consciousness, calling for help, correct hand placement and compression force for chest compressions, and proper ventilation techniques. Through demonstrations with simulation mannequins and hands-on instruction, every participant practiced the full CPR procedure to ensure they could perform accurate and effective rescue in emergencies and win valuable time for a child’s life.
This training not only disseminated practical pediatric first aid knowledge but also strengthened the emergency response capabilities of kindergarten staff and parents, building a solid safety net for children’s healthy growth. Moving forward, the Committee will continue carrying out such public welfare training programs, bringing professional first aid knowledge to more communities in need.
