SIMEPA Retinal Disease Committee Established; Fifth Retinal Disease Academic Conference Successfully Held

 

On April 18, 2026, the Inaugural Meeting of the Retinal Disease Committee of the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association (SIMEPA) and the Fifth Retinal Disease Academic Conference ("Brilliant Vision Legacy") were successfully held in Xi'an. The event was organized by SIMEPA and hosted by the First Affiliated Hospital of Northwest University (Xi'an First Hospital).

During the inaugural meeting, the Committee completed its leadership election through a democratic voting process. Professor Lu Huiqin, Director of the Department of Medical Retina at Xi'an First Hospital, was elected as Chair of the Committee. Professors Bi Chunchao, Shan Wuqiang, Li Wujun, Wang Tong, and Zhang Hongbing were appointed as Committee Advisors. In addition, Professors Bai Ling, Hou Lihua, Huang Lei, Kou Lieling, Lei Shuhong, Li Man, Tian Jin, Wang Yanrong, Yang Xin, Zhang Jian, Zhang Jin, and Zhu Lei were elected as Vice Chairs, providing strong academic leadership for the Committee's future development.

The academic conference focused on major retinal diseases, including retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV), virus-associated retinal diseases, ocular tumors, and inherited retinal diseases. Experts delivered in-depth presentations and engaged in discussions on a broad range of cutting-edge topics, including disease pathogenesis, retinal imaging interpretation, gene therapy, and strategies for preventing disease recurrence.

The conference also featured extensive clinical case presentations and surgical demonstrations. Participants engaged in lively discussions on challenging and high-priority clinical issues encountered in daily practice, exchanging valuable experience and generating constructive ideas for future clinical and academic collaboration. The vibrant academic atmosphere laid a solid foundation for the Committee's future initiatives.

The establishment of the Retinal Disease Committee of SIMEPA marks an important milestone in the development of an academic community dedicated to retinal diseases in Shaanxi Province. Looking ahead, the Committee will integrate high-quality academic resources, promote innovation in retinal disease research and clinical practice, and contribute to improving eye health for the people of Shaanxi through enhanced collaboration and professional development.
