Shaanxi Province successfully holds an academic seminar on accelerating the elimination of cervical cancer and hepatitis B prevention and treatment consensus.

Cervical cancer is one of the gynecological malignant tumors that seriously threaten women's health. With the rapid development of China's economy, society, and lifestyle changes, the incidence of cervical cancer continues to increase and shows a trend of younger age. Hepatitis E is one of the major causes of acute sporadic viral hepatitis worldwide. In 2022, the Hepatology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association authoritatively issued the "Hepatitis E Prevention and Treatment Consensus." To implement the "Action Plan for Accelerating the Elimination of Cervical Cancer (2023-2030)" jointly issued by the National Health Commission, the Ministry of Education, the All-China Women's Federation, and other 10 departments, and to implement the "Hepatitis E Prevention and Treatment Consensus," enhance the professional capacity of disease control institutions and vaccination unit personnel, and improve citizens' health literacy and public disease prevention awareness, the "Shaanxi Province Accelerating the Elimination of Cervical Cancer and Hepatitis E Prevention and Treatment Consensus Academic Seminar" was successfully held on February 21, 2023. The event was hosted by the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association and co-organized by Xiamen Innovax Biotech Co., Ltd., at The Westin Hotel in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province.

The conference invited provincial and municipal experts to deliver lectures on topics such as the consensus on accelerating the elimination of cervical cancer and hepatitis E prevention and treatment in Shaanxi Province. The meeting was chaired by Ning Wang, Vice President and Secretary-General of Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association (SXIMEA). Representatives from various districts and counties in Shaanxi Province, including directors in charge of disease control centers, heads of immunization planning departments, core staff of immunization planning departments, heads of vaccination clinics in various districts, and heads of vaccination clinics in county urban areas, participated in the meeting.

Experts delivered lectures on topics such as the consensus on accelerating the elimination of cervical cancer and hepatitis E prevention and treatment in Shaanxi Province. First, they pointed out that the incidence of hepatitis E is rising both domestically and internationally, with numerous sources of infection and wide transmission routes. Hepatitis E treatment mainly involves supportive therapy, and currently, no specific drugs for treatment have been approved clinically. The consensus recommends the globally researched and unique marketed hepatitis E vaccine, Yikening, which can effectively prevent hepatitis E. The vaccine has a protection rate of up to 100% and good safety.

Second, they provided detailed explanations on cervical cancer and its three-level prevention, the current status of cervical cancer prevention and control worldwide and in China, and the global and national efforts to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer. Experts pointed out that regular cervical cancer screening combined with HPV vaccination is the most cost-effective prevention strategy.

Third, they discussed the progress of the HPV vaccination project in building a healthy city in Xi'an. Experts noted that both domestic and international guidelines and consensus recommend that adolescents are the primary target for HPV vaccination. HPV vaccines have a well-established evidence chain from immunogenicity to invasive cervical cancer, and so far, they have the longest follow-up time and persistent protection. Achieving a high coverage rate of HPV vaccination among teenagers is key to eliminating cervical cancer as soon as possible.

Fourth, they explained the application of information services - ensuring early priority catch-up vaccinations and other relevant knowledge. Experts pointed out that during the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccination clinics generally faced the issue of missed vaccinations and catch-up vaccinations for the target population, and effective measures needed to be taken to solve these problems. By optimizing information services through WeChat public platforms, the efficiency of vaccination clinics can be effectively improved, while avoiding risk factors and enhancing the satisfaction of vaccine recipients.

Subsequently, the invited experts engaged in an interactive session on the consensus of accelerating the elimination of cervical cancer and hepatitis E prevention and treatment in Shaanxi Province, during which experts and representatives held in-depth discussions. The successful holding of this conference demonstrated the importance that disease control workers attach to immunization work and played a guiding role in safeguarding the physical health of the people.
