The Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association was invited to participate in the 2023 "Belt and Road" International Healthcare Cooperation Promotion Conference and the 5th Shanghai Cooperation Organization Hospital Cooperation

This year marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi’s proposal of the "Belt and Road" initiative. To implement the directives from the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which emphasizes "promoting the high-quality development of the 'Belt and Road' construction," and to pragmatically advance exchanges and cooperation in the healthcare sector, thereby contributing to the construction of a global community of health for mankind, the 2023 "Belt and Road" International Healthcare Cooperation Promotion Conference was successfully held from November 24 to 26 in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. This event was conducted under the guidance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Health Commission, organized by the Chinese Hospital Association, and co-organized by the Guangdong Hospital Association.

 

The conference theme was "Innovation Leads to High-quality Development, Jointly Building a New Model of Medical Cooperation," and it featured representatives from various related institutions, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Good-Neighborliness and Friendship Cooperation Committee, the Guangdong Provincial Hospital Association, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Hospital Cooperation Alliance, and the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association.

 

The opening ceremony was chaired by Li, Linkang, Vice President of the Chinese Hospital Association, with keynote speeches delivered by Yang, Qing, Vice President of the Chinese Hospital Association, and Zheng Wei, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Good-Neighborliness and Friendship Cooperation Committee.

 

Vice President Yang, Qing outlined the array of initiatives undertaken by the Chinese Hospital Association since the launch of the "Belt and Road" initiative, under the guidance of the National Health Commission and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Good-Neighborliness and Friendship Cooperation Committee. These initiatives include the establishment of various hospital cooperation alliances with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, ASEAN, Central and Eastern European countries, and Israel. Leveraging these alliances, the association has actively organized various exchange activities and established multiple specialized cooperation platforms. Moving forward, the Chinese Hospital Association will work with all parties to practice the "Belt and Road" initiative, aiming to continuously expand openness and international exchanges. It will play a bridging role, actively promote exchanges and cooperation among hospitals in countries along the "Belt and Road," and serve to jointly enhance medical technology levels and health service capabilities.

 

During the opening ceremony of the conference, Secretary-General Zheng, Wei highlighted the importance of effectively addressing health security threats and challenges and responding to the urgent health needs of people worldwide. As the first non-governmental diplomatic organization under the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) framework, the Good-Neighborliness and Friendship Cooperation Committee has worked closely with the Chinese Hospital Association to support initiatives such as the construction of an international medical open pilot zone, local health cooperation demonstration zones, and telemedicine platforms. They have organized forums on traditional medicine within the SCO, medical cooperation development conferences, forums on women's and children's health, and online seminars on cerebral palsy rehabilitation for children. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the SCO Good-Neighborliness and Friendship Cooperation Committee. The committee is eager to work closely with all parties to continue promoting practical cooperation in health and wellness, scientific innovation, and cultural exchanges, contributing anew to the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity.

 

President Chen, Zhao introduced the achievements of the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association in international exchanges, especially in medical cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative. He expressed the intention to further leverage the association's advantages, work closely with various alliances, strengthen coordination among provincial medical, public health, and scientific research institutions, deepen grassroots medical exchanges, consolidate existing exchange and cooperation projects, explore new models of cooperation, and advance Shaanxi's international medical collaboration to greater depths and practicality.

 

The keynote speeches were jointly chaired by Huang, Li, President of the Guangdong Hospital Association; Liu, Yongyao, Secretary of the Party Committee of Foshan First People's Hospital; Wang, Jingcheng, Director of the Municipal Hospital Branch of the Chinese Hospital Association and Director of the SuBei People's Hospital Medical Group; and Tu, Jianfeng, Vice President of Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital. Yang, Yining, Chinese Chairman of the SCO Hospital Cooperation Alliance and Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region People's Hospital; Dr. Omurova Zumagul Asanovna, Foreign Chairman of the SCO Hospital Cooperation Alliance, Director of the Hospital directly under the Office of the President of Kyrgyzstan, and Director of the Belt and Road International Medical Cooperation Center; Liu Ying, Vice President of China Medical University; and Hu, Renchong, Vice President and Secretary-General of Hubei Provincial Hospital Association, shared their experiences on building a closer Central Asian health community, Sino-Kyrgyz health cooperation, establishing an SCO medical education platform, and creating new prospects for SCO hospital cooperation starting with specialized assistance. They also provided insights into international medical cooperation along the Belt and Road and the work carried out under the SCO Hospital Cooperation Alliance, looking forward to future collaboration.

 

The conference also featured five parallel forums and three thematic seminars, attracting widespread attention from domestic and international experts and peers.
