The First Academic Meeting of SXIMEA Combination Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Orthopedic Professional Committee was Successfully Held

On March 16, 2024, the first academic meeting of the SXIMEA Combination Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Orthopedic Professional Committee was successfully held in Xi’an. The event was hosted by the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association and organized by Xi’an Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. Wang Xiangyang, Director of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department at Xi’an Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, was elected as the Chair of the SXIMEA Combination Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Orthopedic Professional Committee.

Over 200 experts and scholars from more than 100 medical institutions across various cities and counties in Shaanxi Province, including the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Tangdu Hospital, Shaanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated Hospital, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital, Xi’an Red Cross Hospital, Xi’an Fifth Hospital, and Xi’an Central Hospital, participated in the meeting both online and offline.

The meeting was chaired by Xiao, Bing, Vice President of Xi’an Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. Twenty-three renowned experts and scholars from institutions including the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Tangdu Hospital, Shaanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated Hospital, Xi’an Red Cross Hospital, Xi’an Fifth Hospital, Xi’an Health School, Ankang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, and Baoji Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital delivered lectures on topics such as the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal diseases and their complications, minimally invasive strategies for spinal endoscopy, integrated TCM and Western medicine treatments for hip and knee joint diseases, applications of artificial intelligence and musculoskeletal ultrasound in bone diseases, the role and mechanisms of acupuncture in the perioperative period, and the unique advantages of TCM in Orthopedic disease diagnosis and treatment. They also shared clinical experiences and engaged in discussions.

Participants expressed that the meeting not only promoted new theories and technologies but also guided by clinical needs, improved the professional skills and level of integrated TCM and Western medicine in Orthopedics. It effectively addressed technical difficulties in clinical work and presented a wonderful academic feast.

Chairman Wang, Xiangyang summarized the meeting, emphasizing that the Orthopedic Professional Committee will adhere to the concept of integrating TCM and Western medicine. It is committed to advancing the practice and development of integrated TCM and Western medicine in the field of Orthopedics, advocating a patient-centered medical model that combines the strengths of both approaches to provide more comprehensive and personalized treatment plans. Additionally, the committee will continue to focus on academic innovation and standardized clinical practices to enhance the level of Orthopedic care and benefit the broad patient community.
